June 2007 Around Fiji Variable 50
The weather here kind of depends on where you are. The east coast has all the rain and the west coast has all the sunshine.
Dato / Date Sted / Place Vær / Veather Distance / Time
10.06.07 Tonga - Fiji (Suva) SHIT 455
All kinds of weather. Calm, shit, stormy and squally. The worst was the last day when i could see land but were barely moving, if the engine would have worked i would have fired it up in a flash.
Dato / Date Sted / Place Vær / Veather Distance / Time
28.05.06 ca  Niue - Tonga Great 240
No problems, tripple reefed all the way but still good speed and good sleeps. Arrived in the morning and all is well.
Dato / Date Sted / Place Vær / Veather Distance / Time
11.05.06 ca Palmerston - Niue rough 400
Rough nights, took almost all sails down but during the night the wind shifted soo much (two of the days) i drifted backwards some times. one night i lost almost 20 miles.
Dato / Date Sted / Place Vær / Veather Distance / Time
01.05.06 ca Aitutaki - Palmerston rough 200
two days of too much wind from the  back. the trip was fast but uncomfortable since there were a lot of wind i was rolling and rolling.
Dato / Date Sted / Place Vær / Veather Distance / Time
27.03.06 ca  Bora Bora - Aitutaki (Cook) Nice, one squall 485
First long solo passage. It went great. I went wing on wing all day and reefed down at night. In the day i went a little to much to north so i could put the sail on starboard side at night since that is more comfortable when sleeping. took the gps to bed and turned the lights on.    No Problem   :)
Dato / Date Sted / Place Vær / Veather Distance / Time
5.03.06 ca  Raitea - Bora Bora Nice, little wind 25
Easy but boring, little wind. Had to motor from time to time.
Dato / Date Sted / Place Vær / Veather Distance / Time
2.03.06 ca  Moorea - Raitea Nice, little wind 80
First night sail alone. Reefed to much, this was done to be on the safe side for the night while sleeping but made my sleep uncomfortable since i was rolling all night.
Dato / Date Sted / Place Vær / Veather Distance / Time
1.03.06 ca Tahiti - Moorea Nice 15
First solo sail. Everything went fine, still have much to learn about sailing alone.
Dato / Date Sted / Place Vær / Veather Distance / Time
16.01.06 ca Tahiti - Moorea - Tahiti Squalls and current 30
Going to Moorea was easy. The wind in the back and with over 20 knots it went fast. The rainsqualls we used to shower in. Coming back against this kind of weather was worse. We did as low as 1,5 knots with the wind and big waves stgraight in ouer nose. I see now why it is not sailing season here.
Dato / Date Sted / Place Vær / Veather Distance / Time
10.01.06 ca Taravao to Tahina (Tahiti) Wind, no wind? 30
This was the first sail for Tim and the first one for me with crew with no experience. That part went excellent but the weather was not on ouer side. We had great wind for the first two houers then nothing and then some wind in ouer nose. The engine had to be used at the end but the propeller was so overgrown that we could only do 3 knots on enginge. Coming in to Marina Tahina through the reef entrance went fine and thanks to Tim for a great job there.

06.12.05? ca Rangirora to Tahiti Washing Machine 200
Not one of the best sails we have had. It was like a washing machine but very very fast. Shelly's first sail was not too great for her but she kept the dinner.
Dato / Date Sted / Place Vær / Veather Distance / Time
06.11.05? ca Nuku Hiva to Tuamoto (Rangirora) No wind or storms 475
Not one of the best sails we have had. The wind turned all the way around the compass and we had all kind of winds. Two days of calms and two days of storms. For 12 houers we were not able to do more than 5 miles or so. We also arrived at a bad time to enter the lagoon and had to fight ouer way in while the current was flowing out.
Dato / Date Sted / Place Vær / Veather Distance / Time
26.10.05? ca Ua Huka to Nuku Hiva Great 20
We lucked out and missed all the squalls and made good time. Paul was not so lucky he was right behind us but got hit by freak squalls 5 times and arrived almost 3 houers later than us.
Dato / Date Sted / Place Vær / Veather Distance / Time
23.10.05? ca Hiva Oa North to Ua Huka Stormy 30
This was supposed to be a nice sail but turned out to be really shitty. we arrived to early in stormy conditiones and had to sail away from the island to make a morning arrival. It was a long and rainy night and not at all plesant. We towd the dingy and it got bashed around all night. The entrance to ua huka was terrible too .
Dato / Date Sted / Place Vær / Veather Distance / Time
22.10.05? ca Tahuata to Hiva Oa North Nice 15
Just a few miles sail again. No problems
Dato / Date Sted / Place Vær / Veather Distance / Time
20.10.05? ca Hiva Oa To Tahuata Perfect 10
Just ten miles to this little island. Ouer friend Julian in Bounty told us about the bay and we went together with him and Paul&Andrea. Nice little sail.

06.10.05 Fatu Hiva to Hiva Oa No Wind :) 45
A short trip like this we did at night. There was no wind and that was good because then we could time the arrival easy. We salied slow all night and slept well. Arrived in the morning.
Dato / Date Sted / Place Vær / Veather Distance / Time
05.10.05 Galapagos to Marquesas Good 2950
Great sail the whole way. A lot of wind in the beginning of the trip but it got redused every day as we sailed west. We had days of 135 to 145 Nm in the beginning and ended up with days of about 100 Nm.
Dato / Date Sted / Place Vær / Veather Distance / Time

13.05.05 Bonaire to Aruba (Nederland) High seas, fast sail 110 Nm in 24 hours
First time with 5 people in the boat. it was crowdy but worked out fine. The waves were big but the boat handled them nicely. The wind wane steered all the way.
Dato / Date Sted / Place Vær / Veather Distance / Time
01.05.05 Los Roques (Venez) to Bonaire (Nerderland) Great, some rain in the morning. 100 Nm in 22 hours
A great trip. The current was with us and we were flying most of the way. At night we had to slow down in order to not get to bonaire in the dark. This was a very good idea because bonaire cant afford to keep all their lighthouses so a few crucial ones was switched off?.
Dato / Date Sted / Place Vær / Veather Distance / Time
30.04.05 Coche to los Rocques, Venezuela. With the current and fair winds 180 Nm in 45 hours
We had some hours with little wind but we learned to sail 'butterfly' and use the wind wand.  Los Roques was also great even though we navigated a little wrong in between the first couple of reefs.
Dato / Date Sted / Place Vær / Veather Distance / Time
29.04.05 Isla Margarita to Coche, Venezuela Little & No wind 16 Nm in 3,5 hours
short ride with plenty of wind. unfortunally we were in a hurry to make it before dark so we motored for the last houer.
Dato / Date Sted / Place Vær / Veather Distance / Time
25.04.05 Los Testigos to Isla Margarita, Venezuela Little & No wind 50 Nm in 9 hours
Startet out early friday morning together with one danish and one norwegian boat. We kept within a couple of hundreds of meters all day. After about five hours the wind died completly and we had to motor for the last 3 hours or so.
Dato / Date Sted / Place Vær / Veather Distance / Time
17.04.05 Marigot Bay, St Lucia To Los Testigos, Venezuela Perfect wind 192 Nm in 47 hours
Our first sail alone, me and Darryl. We had a great sail but the rest was not so good. When we were about to leave the engine would not start so we sailed out and let engine be engine. Another problem was cooking, the gas we had gotten for the stove was the wrong kind and was not usable cause of the emission it let out. But as i said the sail was great, two days at sea and no problem...

12.04.05 Admirality Bay, Bequia to Anse Cochon, St Lucia little wind 75 Nm in 20 hours
In order not to do the same mistake as yesterday we stayed very close to the shore.  As it turned out, that was wrong too. We ended up staying too close to shore and getting no wind at all.  We used the motor for a bit to find wind but, it died on us too.  So, we had to wait it out for 3 hours until we drifted passed the point and received some wind. The current and wind then became very strong from the east and we ended up having to sail about fifteen nm extra in order to turn around and catch the wind into our destination, Marigot Bay.  Our calculations were a bit off and we changed course to Anse Cochon, 3nm from Marigot Bay.

10.04.05 Prickley Bay, Grenada to Admirality Bay, Bequia Strong Current 70 Nm in 21 hours

Everything was great until the current got a hold of us and we headed straight towards cuba. It was an easier sail then the night before but, we struggeled with the wind and current trying to stay on track and had to start the engine for three hours in the morning go get into Admirality Bay, Bequia.  We figured out the auto pilot early in the night (a piston/compass system that attaches to the rudder) and it works great,...when he wants.  He's now known as Judas.  But he does allow us to kick back and enjoy the stars, fly fish, glowing plankton (morild), and tranquillity of the sea.

08.04.05 Charaguama, Trinidad to Prickley Bay, Grenada ROUGH!! 85 nm in 18 Hours

Sailed 85 Nautical miles from Trinidad to Grenada, it took 18 hours (estimated time-20 hours).  It was a night sail and pretty rough/wet with 3 meter waves and 25 knot NE winds.  The boat was cruising at 10 kn. during the night and 3 kn. in the morning.  It was a great learning experience for me and Darryl since we don't know too much.  Simen did a great job all night and gave us lots of confidence with the boat.

23 March Charaguamas, Trinidad Hot and Humid

Charaguamas is not the worst place to keep a boat. They have all kind of shops here and it is not too hard to get whatever you need.  Although, it can be hard to get the locals to work. Not that I will judge them for that because it is extremly hot here and you really don't feel like working.
